Newspaper Report Gymotion 2023

For the eighth time, the "Gymotion" amazed the audience on January 7th at the Hallenstadion Zurich with a unique combination of gymnastics, live music, and light show. Right in the middle of it were the "Gekos" from TV Hünenberg with a fascinating show program that thrilled the audience.

High-standing gymnastics performances in harmony with great live music - this is the "Gymotion", the largest gymnastics show in Switzerland. It is one of the most spectacular events that the Swiss Gymnastics Federation has to offer and takes place every two years. Due to the pandemic, the 2022 edition had to be postponed by one year. On January 7th, the long wait was finally over. Under the motto "Feel the rhythm", over 600 gymnasts from Switzerland, together with the Gymotion band, created a world full of visual and acoustic highlights. As an encore, an entry in the Guinness Book of Records was also achieved.

For the first time with a Zug-based club

24 groups and clubs from all over Switzerland as well as the national gymnastics squads for women and men presented their skills. Wrapped in gymnastic action, fun and goosebumps moments, they knew how to excite the audience. For the first time, the "Gekos" from TV Hünenberg were also part of it. As the first club from Zug ever, they were allowed to perform at this rendezvous of the best thanks to strong performances at club gymnastics competitions in recent years. "This is a huge honor to be able to show our show program in front of such a large audience. We are a bit excited," said a gymnast of the "Gekos" in an interview shortly before the performance and immediately added: "But that's part of it. The anticipation of being able to show what we have been training for long and intensively is much greater".

Great shows in front of a record crowd

At the two performances, the various performances caused a lot of enthusiasm among the more than 13,500 spectators, as many as never before in the history of Gymotion. The "Gekos" also knew how to convince and were able to captivate the audience. In a varied number, they combined the devices floor, bars and step bars with their unique partner acrobatics to the sounds of a mashup hit from Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson. At both performances, the athletes from TV Hünenberg showed an almost perfectly executed program - thunderous applause was the deserved reward for it. The Gymotion was rounded off with a world record attempt with the most double somersaults on the jump in three minutes. Around 200 gymnasts from all over Switzerland cracked the existing record of 300 double somersaults with ease. They showed 659 and can now proudly call themselves world record holders. The entry in the Guinness Book of Records serves as proof.

Great effort is rewarded

Countless hours of sweaty work of all those involved are behind this great event. The pandemic-related postponement caused additional effort and challenges that had to be mastered. The "Gekos" also prepared for this occasion for over two years. Special elements were practiced specifically for this and a brand new show outfit was hand-sewn. The great atmosphere in the Hallenstadion was proof that the effort was more than worth it and the performance will remain in best memory forever. Oliver Müller, head of the "Gekos", is also more than satisfied: "It was brilliant to be able to do gymnastics in front of such a great backdrop. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this experience possible for us." For the "Gekos" it is now time to recharge their batteries, before the new gymnastics season starts and the next highlight with participation in the Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam awaits in summer.
